Celal Bayar House

The house in Umurbey, north of Gemlik, where Celal Bayar, the 3rd President of the Republic of Turkey, was born, reflecting the architectural features of the XIXth century, was opened as the Celal Bayar Museum on August 26, 1970. Celal Bayar used his own means in the establishment of the museum and the library inside. This house, which is one of the most beautiful examples of a three-storey wooden Turkish house, was reorganized with original household items and various historical items from the same period and turned into a memorial museum. In the museum, which is housed in a modern structure, a section on Atatürk has been opened. In addition, photographs, memorabilia and paintings from Celal Bayar's Kuvay-i Milliye years, Galip Hodja period, his deputy of Economy, the Ministry of Reconstruction and Settlement, the establishment of İş Bank and the period when he was Atatürk's Prime Minister (1937-1938) are exhibited. In the other two halls of the museum, the insignia, medals, manuscripts, weapons, clothes, mattresses and plaques, furniture, family heirlooms and autographed pictures of Celal Bayar presented to him during his visits to various countries and organizations during his presidency are exhibited. The museum has a library of over 20,000 books, manuscripts, newspapers, periodicals and photographs.
