There are places suitable for weekend trips all around. Umurbey, the birthplace of Celal Bayar, the last prime minister of Atatürk's era and the third president of Turkey, is one of these routes. Umurbey, with its history, natural beauty and unique view overlooking the Gemlik Bay, was formed by the merger of 5 small tent villages, which the Ottomans created in strategic places around Gemlik during the 9-year siege of Gemlik and where they settled the families of soldiers, about 100 years later. It was named after Umur Bey who united these villages.
Umurbey, which is connected to Gemlik district, is a settlement area located in the south of the Marmara Region, at the foot of the Kurban Mountains, 250 meters above sea level. The first thing that catches the eye is of course the Mausoleum, which can be seen from almost everywhere in the region. The Monument-Sculpture built in memory of Celal Bayar is identified with Umurbey. Celal Bayar Mausoleum and the large park around it, Celal Bayar Foundation Museum - Library and Celal Bayar Memorial-Stele are located in Umurbey square. Above the square you can see the 19th century museum-house where Celal Bayar was born in 1883. You can also visit the neighborhoods of the village with historic village houses.
